In 1927-28, Denver finally purchased Red Rocks Park. It required a complicated series of transactions involving several different landowners. John Brisben Walker had forfeited the park during the 1920s for defaulting on tax payments to the county as he lost his last fortune. John Ross, a colleague of Walker’s and head of Bear Creek Development Co., acquired much of the land.
Among Denver’s first priorities was reconstruction of the scenic roadways that provided impressive views of the characteristic rock formations.
